Dog Breeds in the Toy Group

Don't let their small stature and gile expressions fool you, dogs in the Toy group can be tough. You might say "their bark is worst than their bite". These lovable little characters are always a popular choice for people who live in apartments or small living spaces. By the way, every breed has some smaller dog breeds in their group.

Chihuahua

The Chihuahua may be a good companion dog, but not if you have children. They do not like the antics and teasing children display. Because they are so small, as a protective instinct they move very quickly. This breed is so intensely affectionate towards their owners that they have a tendency to become jealous of others. Some of these dogs are very hard to train, early socialization is very important. They really don't like other dog breeds by nature and can be very aggressive.

Pug

A devoted, loyal, and loving breed the Pug can be charming and mischievous at the same time. They become bored easily always looking for something new to play with. They get along good with other animals, and are well behaved both with strangers and kids. They really won't let you ignore them for too long as they are perky enough to let you know they want some attention.

Toy Poodle

Easily trained the Toy Poodle is a very responsive breed. Even though most of them are happy and delightful dogs, some may be very high strung and timid if they are not socialized as puppies. In general they get along well with other pets and dogs. They do not like to be surprised or teased, so they do better with older children.

Pekingese

You will need to be very patient if you choose a Pekingese as a companion. They have tendency to be overly sensitive and independent, this breed can become difficult to deal with. They will display odd behaviors, such as refusing to eat, in order to dominate over their owners. The Pekingese is hard to housebreak and does not get along well with young children.

Papillon

Nicknamed the butterfly dog, because their ears look like butterfly wings, the Papillon is a gentle, charming breed. You need to research this dogs blood line, some of them can be very high strung and nervous. With a tendency to be a bit aggressive, this breed does best with older children. They do well with cats if they are raised with them as puppies.
