Talk about a diverse group of dogs, the Non-Sporting breeds include animals with a wide array of personalities and appearances. So when you are getting ready to pick a new pet from this group it is wise to educate yourself about the particular breed you are interested in owning.
Chinese Char-Pei
An active, dominant, loyal companion best explains the Chinese Char-Pei's character. In order to keep this breed in line, they must be socialized with children and other animals early. You may find keeping the Char-Pei clean a challenge, as they hate water. Obedience training is a must to keep their stubborn, dominant nature in check.
Poodle
Poodles are a good-natured, proud, and dignified breed. The are very intelligent and easily trained. Their good nature makes them an excellent choice as a family dog, they love kids. Unlike the Toy Poodle, the Standard Poodle is calmer, they love being with family and hate being left alone for long periods of time.
Boston Terrier
Unfortunatley this little affectionate dog was bred for use in dog fights, but today they are much less aggressive and more well-mannered. This breed however still has a tendency to be very willful. They can be difficult to housebreak, but all in all this rambunctious breed is good with children, seniors, and strangers.
Bichon Frise
The Bichon Frise is a happy, affectionate breed. They are sociable by nature, therefore they get along well with other dogs, family pets and children. Because of overbreeding in the 1980's be sure that you are recieving your new Bichon Frise from a reputable breeder, some of the blood lines produced dogs with no so likable personality traits.
Schipperke
Looking for a dog that will defend you house from intruders? Well then the Schipperke is the dog for you. This breed has tendency to be hot-tempered and very protective. They are easy to train, get along well with children, cats, and other dogs. Training is must as they can be very curious and mischievous.
